WORKSHOP DATES – JANUARY TO JUNE 2018

FRIDAY 19TH JANUARY – UFO – JOAN

If you have an unfinished project that you want to get on with, need a bit of help, or just want to put a quilt together but not sure how or what to do, then this is the ideal workshop for you.  If you would like to start a new project, and again need some guidance come along and we will help you.

SATURDAY 3RD FEBRUARY – BAGS – JOAN

This is a popular workshop, and once again Joan will have some old favourites, and some new designs.  She will show you some simple short cuts to produce a professional looking bag.  Suitable for all levels.

FRIDAY 2ND MARCH –  BEGINNERS - DEBBY

If you would like to learn how to make a simple cushion or a small quilt using patchwork and quilting come along and have a go.

WEDNESDAY 14TH MARCH -  FREE MOTION EMBROIDERY – GARY

Gary has taught this popular workshop for us before, but this time he will have some new pictures for you to try.  He takes you through the design process using collage, free motion embroidery, a bit of simple hand stitching and a little bit of paint.  You can either have a go at producing an Exmoor pony, or a landscape based on a walk from Dunkery to Porlock.   If you have never tried free motion embroidery before then this is an ideal workshop to start learning.

SATURDAY 24TH MARCH – ROW BY ROW – JOAN

There are lots of new books out there at the moment where you use a different technique for each row of a quilt, or a border.  You can have a go at just one, or try several.

WEDNESDAY 11TH APRIL – SMALL  SIMPLE QUILT WITH A MORE CHALLENGING APPLIQUED BORDER – ANNE VARLEY

Anne does the most fabulous applique, the top can be made in a morning, and then in the afternoon you start the applique, which is more challenging.  Anne will have lots of ideas for the applique.  This quilt would be suitable for a baby.

FRIDAY 27TH APRIL – ENGLISH PAPER PIECING – DEBBY

English paper piecing is very fashionable at the moment.  Debby will bring a range of designs with a modern touch.  A brilliant way to use up small pieces of fabric that you don’t know what to do with, but don’t want to throw away.

FRIDAY 11TH MARCH – USE UP THOSE OLD SHIRTS – DEBBY

Make a small quilt or small gifts using men’s shirts, - lovely way to celebrate the men, or women, in your life, and recycle instead of discarding.  Don’t worry if you don’t have any old shirts, we will have packs available on the day.

SATURDAY 2ND JUNE – INCHIES WITH A TWIST – JOAN

This was a popular workshop last year, and if you enjoy hand stitching it’s a lovely calm relaxing workshop.  It’s another great way to use up your precious scraps with an emphasis on layering.

WEDNESDAY 13TH JUNE – SWOON BLOCK – DEBBY

This is quite a new block and everyone seems to be doing it at the moment.  It’s a good block for new techniques, including stars, flying geese, half square triangles.  The finished block would make a lovely cushion or the beginnings of a quilt, using three fabrics.

All Workshops are held in The Orangery at Nynehead Court.  They start at 10.00am and finish at 4.00pm.  Due to the increased hire of the hall, the cost will now be £37.50.  Gary and Anne’s Workshops ae £40.00.  Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided but you will need to bring a packed lunch.   All workshops require a non-refundable £10 deposit to secure a place.

In addition to our Workshops we also run a monthly Sewing Bee at West Buckland Village Hall.  The cost is £12.00 per session 10.00am-4.00pm, and again tea, coffee and biscuits are provided, but you will need a packed lunch.  There is no need to book, just turn up on the day.  The Sewing Bee is always on a Saturday –
