Workshops

Below are our workshops for the rest of the year, plus dates for our monthly Sewing Bees.

FRIDAY 27th JULY – BAGS – JOAN

Joan has some more ideas for bags.  There will be four to chose from, and some will be more difficult than others, so is suitable for all levels.  You will be shown basic techniques to give your bag a professional finish, and they will come in various sizes.

WEDNESDAY 22nd AUGUST – STAR GAZING HARES – GARY MILLS - £40.00

Gary has designed a lovely Hare which can be used as a doorstop.  It is made of linen with appliqued and embroidered flowers.  The flowers can be hand or machine stitched.

SATURDAY 8th SEPTEMBER -  BEGINNERS – DEBBY

Once again Debby is running her popular beginners class.  It is suitable for complete beginners, or those who sew already, but would like to learn how to do it properly.  You will be shown how to use a rotary cutter.  There will be a choice of either a cushion of a simple small quilt.

FRIDAY 28th SEPTEMBER – RABBITS AND BUNNIES – Anne Varley - £40.00

Last time Anne did a workshop for us everyone fell in love with her Peter Rabbit cushion and log cabin quilt appliqued with rabbits and lollipop trees.  At the workshop you will be shown how to make a panel which can then be used for either a cushion, a quilt, or even a wall hanging.

WEDNESDAY 10th October – EMBROIDERED NOTEBOOKS – JOAN

Joan has been playing with the idea of using some of her pieces of embroidery for a notebook.  You will be given ideas for the front of your notebook, and then how to make the notebook, using either paper or fabric.  You could use them as gifts, for samples of techniques or stitches, or keepsakes, the list is endless.   If you have a notebook which you would like to cover, she can show you how to do this too.

WEDNESDAY 17TH OCTOBER - ‘SUITS YOU` - GARY MILLS

An opportunity to make a mini bag or satchell for your electronic devices, such as a tablet, iPad or  light box.  They are made from tweed scraps with men’s tailoring details, so could be suitable for a man.  If you fancy something more girly, then use any cotton or other scraps you have.  They have an appearance of crazy patchwork, but without the embroidery.   Tweed scraps will be available if you haven’t got any.

WEDNESDAY 7TH NOVEMBER – CHRISTMAS PRESENTS – JOAN AND DEBBY

With Christmas getting near, why not make some Christmas presents.  There will be a variety of ideas, including, small bags to hold things such as makeup, sewing projects, medication, nail varnishes, or just to put a present in.  There will also be purses, bookmarks, pencil cases, pin cushions, aprons, and lots more.
